Homework:
1.Bring final copy of your Plank (regarding writing.)
2. Reflect in a letter to yourself: Regarding student teaching - Hopes, fears, expectations, needs. What do you want to remember?
Wednesday, August 13
Homework:
1. Choose an article from the reader. Read and summarize it for a small group jigsaw sharing.
2. Revise Random Autobiography.
3. Bring your 22 f/b copies of biography and your writings (Be sure your name is on both sides somewhere.)
4. Bring $1 for the Anthology if you have not already.
Tuesday, August 12
Homework:
1. Reader: pp.191-195 "Addressing the Literacy Crisis". As you are reading, identify and write one question (on pink post-it), one reflection or question (on orange post-it) and one quote on yellow post-it.) We will be posting them on charts and responding to them in class on Wednesday.
2. Revise your planks.
3. FOR THURSDAY remember to print off 22 (2 sided) copies, making sure you place your writing(s) you want to submit on the back side of the bio sketch.
Monday, August 11
Homework:
Please bring your reader to class on Tuesday, AND please bring your writings to choose one for a "Leads" revision lesson with Harvey.
1. Reader: pp. 97-102 "Competence for Performance in Revision." Choose one strategy in the article and explain how you might use it with your students.
2. Revise your writing plank - Wi will share them in the writing groups on Tueday.
3. Bring your completed 101 word stgory to share orally tomorrow.
For Thursday, Bring 22 copies (2-sided) of your Anthology writings (Bio-Sketch and your selected writings you want to include (your choice.)
Friday, August 8
Homework:
`1. Reading and Writing Connection, page 140 to the end.
Refer to the above article, and write to a student (maybe an emerging reader) in a kid-friendly language - Concentrate on tips to improve "reading ." (e.g. a letter, chart, cartoon...)
2. Be prepared to share your 101 word annotated map story on Tuesday.
Thursday, August 7
Homework:
*Read pages 131-140 "What is the Reading/Writing Connection?" by Carol Booth Olson (end at top,)
*Create a code for interacting with the text (e.g. +,-, I=interesting, , C=Confusing , :) or :(, ?, ! ...or any other symbol system you can employ for interaction.)
Come prepared to share your bio sketch. Bring a hard copy. Consider bringing at least two pieces to a final state by next week.

Read Richard Graves' article "Rhetoric and Composition," and John S. Mayher's article "Writing to Learn Across the Curriculum" (pp.65-81). Choose a response bullet from page 70, and respond with regard to your own writing experience in education.
